Project Description HYSTERA (2023) explores the visceral reality of endometriosis through the lens of ancient medical myth, female embodiment, and personal narrative. The term 'Hysteria' derived from the word 'Hystera'. 'Hystera' translates from Greek to 'womb' or ‘uterus'. Hysteria became associated with Hippocrates’ theory of 'The Wandering Womb'. This claimed the uterus as a living creature that would, when unsatisfied, detach itself from its rightful place and roam the female body thus inducing female hysteria. Drawing from this history, HYSTERA is a multi-faceted project that intimately reflects the artists own experience of living with endometriosis and challenges of receiving such a diagnosis. Through a blend of photography, video, written and spoken word, this project sheds light on the physical and emotional impact of an under-diagnosed and misunderstood condition, inviting viewers into a raw and deeply intimate landscape of female vulnerability, suffering and resilience.
Project Description Between Breaths (2022) is set in a hazy landscape where the boundaries between the waking world and dreamworld blur, creating a space to explore the depths of the psyche. Rooted in Jungian theory, this project centres around the realisation of the shadow and the process of Individuation.
Project Description When We Break (2021) invites viewers into a raw and claustrophobic world where pain is read in colour and movement. Inspired by Carl Jung’s theory of the shadow self.
Project Description Through the Looking Glass (2019) is a mini-series exploring the ‘woman’ and her ‘image,’ haunted by past and present ideals.
